LCFF at West Park Charter Academy
What is LCFF (Local Control Funding Formula)? A new way California schools are receiving state funding.
Many Parts of LCFF are now operational. Schools are expected to begin rethinking their approach to planning, budgeting, and using funds aligned to the following eight state priorities included in Education Code (EC) 52060(d):
- Compliance with requirements: West Park Charter Academy is required to comply with state and NCLB expectations as aligned with its charter design that all students are served to meet state requirements.
- Implementation of the academic content and performance standards adopted by SBE, West Park Charter Academy must show how the programs and services will enable English learners to access the common core academic content standards and the English Language Development standards.
- Parental involvement, West Park Charter Academy must include efforts to seek parent input in making decisions for the school, and including how the school district will promote parental participation in programs for economically disadvantaged pupils, English learners, foster youth, and individuals with exceptional needs.
- Pupil achievement West Park Charter Academy must provide academic measuring information on how students perform on state standards and in areas of college readiness, and language proficiency. Currently, accreditation terms identify
- Pupil engagement West Park Charter Academy must measure rates associated with attendance, chronic absenteeism, dropout, retention, and grade completion.
- School climate West Park Charter Academy must measure and report pupil suspension and expulsion rates as well as other local measures assessing safety and school connectedness.
- Pupils access Must measure how students are involved in a broad course of study that includes core subject areas (i.e., English, mathematics, social science, science, visual and performing arts, health, physical education, career and technical education, etc.), including the programs and services developed and provided to economically disadvantaged pupils, English learners, foster youth, and individuals with exceptional needs.
- Pupil outcomes, West Park Charter Academy must measure in the subject areas comprising a broad course of study.
LCFF and LCAP: New Terms for Schools.
The way schools are to address the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) is by doing a Local Control Action Plan (LCAP).
The LCAP is required to have the eight priorities that are divided into three categories.
Each category is to have a set of goals that is attached to LCFF funds (supplemental and augmentation funds).
How does West Park Charter Academy plan to address the LCFF and LCAP development and implementation?
Plan to address LCAP:
- Identify what we do in the identified areas of LCAP measures.
- Provide community with a comprehensive information.
- Survey needs of community and teachers.
- Match needs with what we do.
- If needs identified are not in existence, then, develop an implementation plan.
- Identify the funding need for each area (goal)
- If funding is not sufficient, then prioritize the need and “do-ability” of the activity (goals).
How can parents get involved with LCAP input?
- Watch for school meetings to attend or Ask to attend school meetings about supporting students and academics..
- Ask about the LCAP development.
- Fill out school surveys when they arrive home.
